Pureit Water Purifier

There are five models in the Pureit range of water purifiers. These are: Pureit Classic, Pureit Compact, Pureit Autofill, Pureit Marvella and the Pureit Marvella RO. All of these models, except the Pureit Marvella-RO, have a 4 stage purification process to deliver “as safe as boiled water” without the use of electricity.

PUREIT RO

Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) who owns the Pure it brand, has just announced its new range, the Pureit Marvella RO. This is the best water purifier being the top of the range product of the Pureit range and is priced at Rs.13,500-. This water filter requires electricity to work, but with its large storage tank of 9 liters capacity, any elctricity cuts will not affect it so much. All Pureit models claim to meet the US EPA standards for anti-microbial (germ-killing) and bacteriostatic (slowing or inhibiting growth of germs). This germ kill standard of the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for water purifiers requires 6-log reduction of bacteria, 4-log reduction of viruses, and 3-log reduction of protozoan cysts.

In the 'Pureit Marvella', the microfibre mesh has been renamed as a 'pleated filter', while the 'compact carbon trap' has been renamed as a 'unique activated carbon filter'. The microfibre mesh or in the case of the Marvella, the pleated filter, functions like a sieve, filtering out larger particles of dirt. The carbon trap removes parasites and pesticides. The germkill processor has a special chlorine chemical in solid form, releasing according to the water flow, a strong chlorine based disinfectant, to sterilize the water. The chlorine needs to be in contact with germs in the water for some time, for it to be killed or inactivated, so there is a holding chamber. The polisher removes the by-products of the germkill process and helps in improving the taste of the water. Note that the Germkill processor kit is referred to as 'Germkill Battery'.

This chemical battery needs to be replaced periodically, as and when the germkill battery indicator warning light comes on. Pureit also has an 'auto switch-off' function which will cut-off the flow of water when the Germkill battery is exhausted.

Pureit Classic is the basic model at about Rs. 2000- and has a capacity of 9 liters in the top chamber plus 9 liters in the bottom chamber. Pureit Autofill is identical to Pureit Classic, but has automatic refill feature if connected to a water supply. Pureit Autofill costs about Rs. 3200-. Pureit Compact is available for Rs. 1000- and has a total capacity of 10 liters, 5 each at the top and bottom chamber. All models are available in a choice of two colors - burgundy and royal blue.

Pureit Marvella has to be connected to a water pipeline and thus is auto-filling and has an 'Insta-serve' jug which can be attached into the purifier, and automatically filled. This jug is designed to fit into a fridge like a bottle. Spare jugs are also available, so you can fill several jugs of water and store in the fridge. Pureit Marvella has 3.25 liters of internal purified water storage, plus 1.25 liters in the attached jug. The Marvella model sells for about Rs. 6990-.
